Malgré l'urgence de la situation, puisque la fille de Jaïrus est mourante, Jésus prend le temps, en chemin, d'accomplir une guérison. La perte de sang dont souffrait la femme qui le touche la rendait impure (Lév 15.25-30). Par conséquent, elle ne pouvait avoir de contact avec personne et sa vie sociale a dû en être profondément affectée pendant les douze années de sa maladie. En l'obligeant à se dévoiler après sa guérison, Jésus la réhabilite aux yeux de tous, ce que confirme l'appellation « ma fille » (v. 48), d'usage unique dans les évangiles. Mais surtout, Jésus précise que c'est sa foi qui l'a guérie et non pas son geste. Cette parole qui accompagne la guérison est essentielle pour éviter toute dérive superstitieuse. Cependant, à présent, il est trop tard pour la fille du chef de la synagogue, qui est morte: tout semble perdu. Pourtant Jésus, avec autorité, annonce à Jaïrus que sa fille guérira et le miracle s'accomplit. La foi confiante de Jaïrus n'aura pas été déçue. Pendant que Jésus s'y rendait, la foule le pressait de tous côtés.
