Hosea 10:5
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us that the people of Samaria will fear because of their worship of false gods, represented by the calves in Bethaven. The priests who once rejoiced over these idols now mourn as they realize their glory has left them.
Explained for Children
Imagine you had a favorite toy that made you really happy, but one day it broke and stopped working. You would feel sad because your happiness was tied to something that didn't last. In this verse, the people are like kids who lost their joy when they realized their idols weren't real.
Historical Background
Hosea wrote this prophecy around 750-725 BC during the reign of King Jeroboam II in Israel. The verse speaks to the inhabitants of Samaria, warning them about the consequences of worshipping false gods represented by golden calves at Bethaven, a place where idolatry was rampant.
Living It Out Today
Imagine someone today who puts their trust in money or fame for happiness and security. When they face hard times or loss, they may fear and mourn as they realize these things can't give lasting joy or meaning to life.
