Genesis 41:6
French (La Sainte Bible par Louis Segond 1910)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Joseph is interpreting a dream about seven thin and scorched ears of grain that sprouted after seven healthy ears. This is part of a dream Pharaoh had, and the dream represents a future famine following seven years of abundance.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a garden where you grow corn. First, you see seven really healthy corn plants, but then, seven skinny and dried-up plants grow right after them. This is what Joseph saw in a dream that Pharaoh had, and it meant that after seven good years, seven bad years would come.
Historical Background
Genesis was written by Moses around 1446-1406 BC. The audience was the Israelites who were about to enter the Promised Land. The cultural setting was the region around Egypt and Canaan where agriculture was a significant part of life.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this can remind us to prepare for hard times during good times. For example, saving money during a period of prosperity to help us through tough financial times later.
