Mark 8:5
French NEG79 1979 (Segond Nouvelle Edition de Genève 1979)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Mark's Gospel, Jesus asks his disciples how many loaves of bread they have with them, and the disciples reply that they have seven loaves. This interaction sets up a miraculous feeding event where Jesus multiplies the loaves to feed a large crowd.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're at a picnic and someone asks if there are enough sandwiches for everyone. You count and say 'seven!' That's what happens here, but Jesus uses those few loaves to make enough food for lots of people!
Historical Background
The Gospel of Mark was likely written around AD 65-70 by John Mark, a disciple of Peter. This account is aimed at Roman Christians and provides an early narrative of Jesus' life and teachings. The story reflects the Jewish practice of sharing meals and hospitality.
Living It Out Today
Just like Jesus used the little bread the disciples had to feed many people, we can trust God to use our small resources or efforts for big things in serving others today.
