Matthew 2:7
French (BFC) 1997 (Bible en Français Courant)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Matthew's gospel, King Herod secretly talks to the wise men who have come to find Jesus. He asks them when they first saw the star that led them.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing hide and seek with your friends. Your friend finds a clue where someone is hiding but doesn't tell everyone right away. Instead, he asks more questions to find out exactly when they found it. That's kind of what King Herod did here.
Historical Background
Matthew wrote this gospel in the first century for Jewish Christians living in the Roman Empire. The story reflects a time when kings and rulers were very suspicious of any potential threats, especially from newborns believed to have divine significance.
Living It Out Today
Today, we might see a parallel with leaders who seek information secretly out of fear or to manipulate others. Like Herod, they may not always use the truth for good but try to protect their own power and status.
