Dieu l'a offert comme un sacrifice afin que, par sa mort, le Christ obtienne le pardon des péchés en faveur de ceux qui croient en lui. Dieu a montré ainsi qu'il est toujours juste: il l'était autrefois quand il a patienté et laissé impunis les péchés des hommes; il l'est dans le temps présent, puisqu'il veut à la fois être juste et rendre justes tous ceux qui croient en Jésus.
