Mais il faut que je continue ma route aujourd'hui, demain et le jour suivant, car il ne convient pas qu'un prophète soit mis à mort ailleurs qu'à Jérusalem. Jésus est en marche vers Jérusalem et vers sa mort (9.51 13.22). Il n'y va pas pour fuir les menaces d'Hérode Antipas, le prince de Galilée, mais librement, parce que tel est le projet de Dieu. C'est le sens des « il faut », « il convient » (v. 33), de l'évangile. La ville sainte va rejeter Jésus. Mais ce constat si triste se termine sur une note d'espérance: quand le Fils de l'homme viendra à la fin des temps, alors les habitants de Jérusalem l'accueilleront, en chantant le Ps 118 (v. 26), comme aux grandes fêtes.
