Bildad de Chouha prit alors la parole: Insulté, Bildad refuse de se laisser prendre pour une bête. En effet, Job avait ridiculisé la sagesse de ses amis et leur avait conseillé de s'instruire auprès des animaux (12.7-8). Bildad continue par une sombre description du destin qui attend le méchant. Sa lumière s'éteint, et sa flamme cesse de briller: ce sont des signes de mort (Prov 13.9 24.20). Il perdra bientôt sa force et ses projets finiront par le détruire. Les images du filet, du piège et du nœud coulant suggèrent le caractère imprévisible de la punition. Elles assimilent les méchants à des animaux pris au piège. Bildad retourne ainsi l'insulte contre Job et sauvegarde sa thèse selon laquelle tout malheur est le fruit d'une faute.
