Pour pouvoir vivre pleinement, il a besoin de recevoir le souffle qui vient de Dieu. De même, pour que le peuple reprenne vie, il ne suffit pas qu'il ressuscite dans son corps, c'est-à-dire qu'il retrouve sa patrie et son identité nationale. Il doit aussi être régénéré par l'Esprit de Dieu, afin de vivre pour le Seigneur. La promesse « je vais ouvrir vos tombes et vous en faire remonter » (v. 12) utilise la même expression hébraïque que la promesse de faire sortir le peuple hors d'Égypte: « Il a donc décidé de vous arracher à ce pays » (Ex 3.17). La même puissance libératrice de Dieu arrache son peuple à l'esclavage et l'arrache à la mort. L'asservissement à des faux dieux est une forme d'esclavage qui conduit à la mort. La fidélité au Seigneur est une libération qui donne la vie. Comme Ézékiel, tous les prophètes bibliques martèlent cette vérité.
