Ézékias fit ce qui plaît au Seigneur, tout comme son ancêtre David. Ézékias est présenté comme un roi réformateur qui redonne au royaume de Juda, et surtout au temple de Jérusalem, sa pureté et sa grandeur initiales. La réforme cultuelle s'étend sur trois chapitres alors que les événements politiques n'en prennent qu'un. Depuis le début, le chroniste accorde la plus grande importance à Jérusalem, au temple et à son fonctionnement. La réforme entreprise par le roi Ézékias contrebalance les actions impies commises par son père. Ce dernier avait fermé les portes du temple, installé des lieux sacrés (28.24-25)… Ézékias ouvre les portes du temple et demande qu'on célèbre à nouveau le culte. Il veut conclure une alliance avec le Seigneur afin que la paix revienne. Tous sont concernés: les lévites, les prêtres et tout le peuple, du Nord au Sud.
