Nous croyons que Jésus est mort et qu'il s'est relevé de la mort; de même, nous croyons aussi que Dieu relèvera avec Jésus ceux qui seront morts en croyant en lui. Quant aux croyants qui seront encore vivants à cette heure dernière, ils rejoindront ceux qui sont déjà morts pour rencontrer ensemble le Seigneur. Mais comme la foi n'exclut pas la tristesse devant la mort, cette perspective est consolatrice pour ceux qui pleurent un mort: ressusciter comme Jésus est ressuscité, retrouver les siens décédés, et vivre à jamais avec le Christ.
