Ainsi au v. 3, les lévites sont recensés à partir de trente ans (Nomb 4.23), mais au v. 24, ils le sont à partir de vingt ans, par une décision de David. Le but du biographe est de montrer un David allant aussi loin que possible dans la mise en œuvre du projet de construction du temple de Jérusalem.
