John 18:17
Cebuano CBV - Unknown
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from John's gospel, a woman at the door asks Peter if he is one of Jesus' disciples. Peter denies it. This shows how scared and unsure Peter was at that moment.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing hide-and-seek, and your friend asks if you're hiding with your best buddy. If you say no just to avoid getting found, you might feel a bit naughty or scared. That's kind of what happened here with Peter. He said he wasn't with Jesus because he was afraid.
Historical Background
The Gospel of John was written by the Apostle John around 90 AD, decades after Jesus' death and resurrection. It was likely written for Christian communities to deepen their understanding of who Jesus is as the Son of God. The scene described here takes place in Jerusalem during the Passion week.
Living It Out Today
Sometimes in our daily lives, we might be tempted to deny a relationship or belief when we're under pressure, just like Peter did. This can happen at work if you feel pressured to conform, or among friends who don't share your values. It's important to remember what really matters and stand by it.
