Luke 23:47
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
This verse describes a Roman centurion who was present at Jesus' crucifixion and, after witnessing the events surrounding Jesus' death, came to believe that Jesus was indeed a righteous man. The centurion expressed his admiration for Jesus by glorifying God.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're watching a movie about a superhero who always does good things, even when it's really hard. At the end of the movie, everyone sees how brave and kind this hero is. That's like what happened here: a soldier saw Jesus' bravery and kindness and said, 'Wow, He must be very special.'
Historical Background
This verse appears in Luke's Gospel, written around 60-95 AD by Dr. Luke, who was a physician and historian. It was intended for both Jewish and Gentile audiences in the early Christian church. The cultural setting reflects Roman military presence in Jerusalem during the crucifixion of Jesus.
Living It Out Today
Consider a scenario where you observe someone standing up for what is right even when it costs them personally. This person's actions might inspire you to think differently about their character, just as the centurion was moved by Jesus' example. In your daily life, this can encourage you to be more observant of acts of righteousness around you.
