John 18:4
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
Jesus knew he was going to be arrested and went out to face his captors. He asked them who they were looking for, showing his bravery and control over the situation.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you knew your friend was coming to play a trick on you, but instead of hiding or running away, you went out to greet them and asked what they wanted. That's like Jesus going out calmly even though he knew bad things were about to happen.
Historical Background
John wrote this Gospel in the late first century CE for an audience that included both Jewish Christians and Gentiles. The passage reflects the cultural setting where Jews were facing increasing persecution from Roman authorities.
Living It Out Today
When you know something difficult is coming, like a hard exam or an important presentation, Jesus shows us it's better to face it bravely rather than avoid it. By going out calmly, he teaches us to handle tough situations with courage and confidence.
