John 14:12
What Does This Mean?
Jesus is speaking and says that anyone who believes in him can do the works he does, even greater ones, because he's going to his Father. This means believers have incredible power through faith.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing with a toy car and your friend says they will give you a bigger, better one when they leave for a trip. Jesus is like that friend saying if we believe in him, we can do amazing things, even more amazing than his own works!
Historical Background
The Gospel of John was written by the Apostle John around 90-100 AD. It's addressed to early Christians and non-believers alike, set against a backdrop of growing Christian communities in a largely pagan world.
Living It Out Today
Consider someone who volunteers at a homeless shelter. Initially inspired by Jesus' teachings, they start small but soon organize city-wide drives, feeding more people than ever before, embodying the 'greater works' mentioned here.
