Matthew 22:42
Arabic Bible AVDDV 1999 (الكتاب المقدس (تخفيف تشكيل))
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Matthew 22:42, Jesus is asking the Pharisees about their belief in who Christ is and whose son he is supposed to be according to their understanding. They respond by saying that Christ is the son of David.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a friend named Mike who asks another friend if they know who their new teacher is. The friend answers, 'He's Mr. Jones's son.' Similarly, Jesus is asking some religious leaders who they think Christ (the special leader) is and they say he’s the son of David.
Historical Background
Matthew wrote this account in the first century AD for a Jewish-Christian audience living amidst strong expectations of the Messiah as David's descendant. This reflects the belief that the Messiah would be from the lineage of King David, fulfilling ancient prophecies.
Living It Out Today
Today, this verse reminds us to reflect on our beliefs about Jesus and consider how we view his role in our lives. For instance, if someone asks you who Jesus is, are you clear about your own belief?
