John 18:11
Arabic 2016 (الكِتاب المُقَدَّس: التَّرْجَمَةُ العَرَبِيَّةُ المُبَسَّطَةُ)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Jesus tells Peter to put away his sword because He has accepted the will of His Father and is ready to drink from the cup of suffering. This means that Jesus is willing to follow God's plan even if it involves great hardship.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a yucky medicine in a cup that your mom says will make you better, but it tastes really bad. Jesus is like you taking that medicine because He knows it’s what His dad (God) wants Him to do. Peter tried to stop Him by using his sword, but Jesus told him not to interfere.
Historical Background
The Gospel of John was written around the year 90 AD by the Apostle John, a disciple of Jesus. This event takes place just before Jesus is arrested and describes a moment where His disciples try to defend Him physically, which He rejects in favor of accepting God's will.
Living It Out Today
In today’s world, this verse teaches us that we should trust and follow God's plan for our lives, even if it means enduring difficult circumstances. For example, someone might face a tough situation at work where they feel the need to fight back, but trusting in God’s plan could lead them to handle the situation with grace.
