John 6:62
Amharic Bible (መጽሐፍ ቅዱስ (የብሉይና የሐዲስ ኪዳን መጻሕፍት))
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Jesus is speaking to his disciples and asks them what they would think if they saw him ascend back where he came from before descending to earth. He's trying to prepare them for the reality of his ascension.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a friend who can fly up into the sky whenever they want. One day, this friend tells you that soon they will go back up into the sky and leave. Jesus is like that friend telling his friends he'll be flying away soon.
Historical Background
John wrote this Gospel around 90-100 AD for a largely Gentile audience. The cultural context was one of diverse beliefs, including Hellenistic philosophy and Jewish traditions, amidst which Jesus’s teachings about ascension were profound and challenging.
Living It Out Today
Today, when someone leaves on a long journey or moves to another country, we might feel the same uncertainty as Jesus's disciples did. This verse encourages us to trust in God even when things seem strange or difficult.
