Genesis 28:14
Amharic Bible (መጽሐፍ ቅዱስ (የብሉይና የሐዲስ ኪዳን መጻሕፍት))
What Does This Mean?
This verse is God speaking to Jacob, promising that his descendants will be as numerous as the dust and will spread in all directions. God also promises that through Jacob and his descendants, all families of the earth will be blessed.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a handful of sand. Now, think about how many tiny grains of sand there are. God is telling Jacob that his family will grow to be as big as all that sand! And they'll live all over the place, just like how sand can be found on beaches, in deserts, and even in your backyard. God also says that Jacob's family will help make the world a better place for everyone.
Historical Background
Genesis was written by Moses around 1440-1400 BCE, and this passage is part of God's promise to Jacob, one of the patriarchs of the Israelite people. The cultural setting is pastoral and nomadic, with a focus on family lineage and divine promises.
Living It Out Today
Imagine you are part of a community service project. Just as God promised to bless all families through Jacob's descendants, you can think of your actions as part of a larger effort to bless your community and beyond. Your contributions, no matter how small, can have a ripple effect.
