Leviticus 27:18
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
This verse explains that if someone dedicates a field to the Lord after the Jubilee year, the value of that field is calculated based on the remaining years until the next Jubilee. The value is reduced according to the time left.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a piggy bank that you decide to donate to charity. If you donate it right before your birthday, you get to keep all the coins. But if you donate it after your birthday, you can only keep the coins you've added since then. This verse is like that, but with fields and the Jubilee is like your birthday.
Historical Background
Leviticus was written by Moses around 1446-1406 BC, detailing laws and regulations for the Israelites. The Jubilee year, occurring every 50 years, was a significant cultural event where land was returned to its original owners and debts were forgiven.
Living It Out Today
This verse can be applied to modern scenarios where assets are pledged for charitable or religious purposes. It reminds us of the importance of considering the time value of money and commitments when making such pledges.
