John 8:54
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from John's Gospel, Jesus is speaking and says that he does not honor himself; it is his Father who honors him. He reminds the people that they claim their God is the same one who honors him.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing a game where your dad gives you points for doing great stuff. You don't give yourself points, right? That's what Jesus means here. His Dad (God) is giving him all his honor and respect, not himself!
Historical Background
The Gospel of John was written around AD 90-100 by the Apostle John to a mixed audience of Jewish and Gentile Christians in Asia Minor. The context is one where Jesus is defending his identity and mission against those who question his authority.
Living It Out Today
Imagine you're in a job interview, and instead of bragging about your skills, you talk about how your mentors and teachers helped shape you into the professional you are today. This verse teaches us to acknowledge our support systems rather than just ourselves.
