1 Chronicles 22:8
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
God tells David that because he has fought many battles and shed much blood, he cannot build a temple to God's name. God values peace and wants a peaceful ruler to build the temple instead of someone who has been a warrior.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing with your toys and you've been very rough, breaking a lot of them. Your mom says you can't build a special dollhouse because you've been too rough with your toys. God is telling David he can't build a special house for Him because David has been too rough in his battles.
Historical Background
This verse is from the Book of 1 Chronicles, written by priests and scribes after the Babylonian exile. It was written around 500 BC for the returned exiles to remind them of their history and God's promises. The audience was the Israelites who were rebuilding their society and temple.
Living It Out Today
In today's context, if a business leader has a history of unethical practices, they may be seen as unfit to lead a company that promotes ethical business practices. This shows how past actions can affect future opportunities.
