John 12:35
Amharic Gofa 2011 (ኦራ ጫቁዋ ጎፋ)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Jesus is telling his listeners that they should take advantage of the time when they can clearly see and understand him because soon it will become very hard to do so. He warns them against staying in darkness where one cannot find direction or make sense of their path.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a flashlight on a camping trip, but it won't last forever. Jesus is saying to use the light while you can, because once it goes out (and it will), you'll be stuck in the dark and won’t know where to go next.
Historical Background
The Gospel of John was written by the Apostle John around the end of the first century AD. This passage is part of Jesus' teachings near the end of His ministry, spoken to a mixed group including Jews who were both curious and skeptical about Him. At that time, light often symbolized truth and spiritual guidance.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, consider a situation where someone has a mentor or teacher for only a limited period. They should use this opportunity wisely while the mentor is available to guide them, as once the mentor moves on, it might be harder to get similar guidance.
