Matthew 12:34
Amharic Dawro (Ooratha Caaquwaa)
What Does This Mean?
Jesus is speaking to some Pharisees and calling them 'vipers,' which means they are very evil. He says that because their hearts are full of bad thoughts, the words coming out of their mouths are also bad.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a toy box full of only broken toys. When you reach in to grab something to play with, what do you think comes out? Probably a broken toy! Just like that, Jesus is saying that when our hearts are filled with bad things, the words we say will also be bad.
Historical Background
The Gospel of Matthew was written by one of Jesus' disciples. It was likely composed around AD 80-90 for Jewish Christians living in a predominantly Greek-speaking environment to show how Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophecies and teachings.
Living It Out Today
Think about the last time you had an argument with someone close to you. Did your words come from a place of love or anger? The verse reminds us that our actions are often a direct reflection of what's in our hearts, so it’s important to examine our motives before we speak.
