John 18:28
Amharic Catholic Version (መጽሐፍ ቅዱስ - (ካቶሊካዊ እትም - ኤማሁስ)) No Year
What Does This Mean?
This verse describes how Jesus was taken from Caiaphas to a hall for judgment early in the morning. The religious leaders did not enter the hall because they feared being defiled, as it would prevent them from eating Passover.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing with your friends and one of them says, 'We can't go into this room or we'll get too dirty to play at grandma's house later.' That’s kind of like what the religious leaders did. They didn’t want to be in a place they thought was impure because it would stop them from celebrating an important holiday.
Historical Background
The Gospel of John, written by the Apostle John around AD 90-100, is addressing early Christians who were facing persecution and needed reassurance. The scene takes place during Passover in Jerusalem, where Jewish customs and laws about purity were strictly observed.
Living It Out Today
In today's world, we might see this as a caution against letting fear of minor issues prevent us from doing what’s truly important. Like avoiding an office meeting because you think your desk will be dirty when you return, rather than focusing on the real work that needs to be done.
