What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Acts chapter 12, Rhoda, a servant girl, recognizes Peter's voice outside the gate but is so excited she forgets to open it and rushes in to tell everyone that Peter is standing there.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing hide-and-seek with your friends. You hear someone calling your name from outside where you are hiding. It's your best friend, but you get so happy that instead of coming out right away, you run inside to tell the others that your friend is waiting for you!
Historical Background
The book of Acts was written by Luke around 60-80 AD, aimed at a broad audience including both Jews and Gentiles. This passage describes events in Jerusalem where Peter had been imprisoned but was miraculously freed.
Living It Out Today
Just like Rhoda's excitement made her forget to open the door, sometimes we can get so excited about good news that we forget simple tasks. It’s important to remain calm even when happy moments come our way.
