John 9:4
Afrikaans 1933/1953
What Does This Mean?
In John 9:4, Jesus says He needs to do the work God sent Him for while there's still time because a time will come when it won't be possible anymore. The 'day' means the opportunity and the 'night' represents the end of that chance.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a big art project due tomorrow, and you only have today to finish it. Jesus is saying we should work hard now because there will come a time when we can't do our job anymore. He wants us to use our time wisely just like you'd want to finish your project before the deadline.
Historical Background
John 9:4 comes from the Gospel of John, written by John the Apostle around 90-100 AD. It was directed at a mixed audience of Jews and Gentiles who were learning about Jesus' teachings and miracles. The culture was a blend of Jewish traditions and Roman rule.
Living It Out Today
In today's world, think of someone who volunteers their time to help build homes for the less fortunate but retires next year. This verse encourages them to continue working now while they have the energy and ability because there will come a day when it might not be possible anymore due to age or other constraints.
