Revelation 21:12
Afrikaans DB 2006 (Die Boodskap)
What Does This Mean?
This verse describes the new Jerusalem with a great and high wall with twelve gates, each guarded by an angel. The names of the gates are those of the twelve tribes of Israel. This imagery is part of John's vision in Revelation.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a big, strong fence around your house to keep it safe, just like how this new city has a big wall with twelve special doors named after the families who lived in ancient times. Each door also has an angel watching over it!
Historical Background
The book of Revelation was written by John, likely between AD 95-96. It is addressed to seven churches in Asia Minor and contains symbolic visions meant to encourage Christians facing persecution.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this verse can remind us of the security and protection that comes from being part of a faith community. Just as these gates represent safety and entrance into God's city, our faith communities offer support and guidance.
