Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing a game, and a mean kid from another team comes to your team captain with some scary things to say. Your friends come to your captain with worried faces to tell him what the mean kid said. That's what's happening here, but with grown-ups and a real battle.
Historical Background
Isaiah wrote this verse around 701 BC, during the reign of King Hezekiah. The Assyrian army was besieging Jerusalem, and Rabshakeh was their messenger. The officials coming to Hezekiah show the high stakes and the respect for the king in that time.
