John 10:31
Afrikaans Bible (ABA) 2007 (Bybel vir almal)
What Does This Mean?
In John 10:31, the Jews again pick up stones to try and stone Jesus because they are angry with him for his claims about being one with God. This verse shows the tension between Jesus and some of the religious leaders in Jerusalem.
Explained for Children
Imagine if someone got so mad at you that they wanted to throw rocks at you just because you said something different from what they believed. That's kind of like what happened here, but it was a very serious situation with real danger for Jesus.
Historical Background
The Gospel of John was written by the Apostle John around 90 AD. This verse comes from a discussion between Jesus and some Jewish leaders in Jerusalem. The Jews were known to use stoning as a form of punishment, making this threat particularly dangerous and serious.
Living It Out Today
Today, we face opposition when sharing our beliefs. Imagine if you're standing up for something important and others get so angry they want to harm you. This verse reminds us that being true to your beliefs can come with risks, but staying firm is crucial.
