Galatians 5:9
Afrikaans (Contemporary Afrikaans Bible 2023)
What Does This Mean?
This verse from Galatians says that a little bit of something can affect everything around it, like how a small amount of yeast makes all the dough rise. Paul is speaking here and warns about how even a tiny bit of bad influence can spread throughout a whole community.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a big bowl of clear juice, and you add just one drop of blue food coloring to it. Even though that's only one little drop, the entire glass will start turning blue! That’s what Paul is talking about—how something small can change everything around it, but in this case, he’s warning us about bad things spreading.
Historical Background
The letter was written by Apostle Paul to the churches of Galatia. He wrote it around AD 49–58 to communities of new believers who were being influenced by Jewish legalism. In that time, leaven (yeast) was often used as a symbol for sin or false teaching.
Living It Out Today
Consider a workplace where one person starts gossiping and others follow suit. Soon, the entire office atmosphere can become negative and toxic due to this small but powerful influence. This verse reminds us of the importance of our actions and how they can impact those around us.
