Genesis 11:3
Armenian Eastern Bible 1994
What Does This Mean?
The people of Babel decided to make bricks and use them as stones to build a tower. They used slime as mortar to hold the bricks together. This verse shows the unity and determination of these people to build their tower.
Explained for Children
Imagine you and your friends deciding to build a really tall sandcastle but instead of using sand, you use special blocks. You make the blocks strong by baking them and use a sticky mud to stick the blocks together. That's what the people in this story did with bricks to build a big tower.
Historical Background
Genesis was written by Moses around 1446-1406 BC. The audience was the Israelites who were being reminded of their heritage and God’s actions in the world. This passage reflects the technological and social conditions of ancient Mesopotamia, where building materials like brick and mortar were common.
Living It Out Today
Today, think about a big project you might start with your friends or colleagues. Like the people in this verse, you’ll need to plan and use the right materials and methods to achieve your goal. Teamwork and resourcefulness are key.
