1 Kings 19:14
Armenian Eastern Bible 1994
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Elijah is speaking to God, expressing his frustration and loneliness. He feels he is the only one left who is loyal to God while the rest of Israel has abandoned God's teachings and killed God's prophets.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you were the only one in your whole class who still wanted to play with your favorite toy, but everyone else threw their toys away and said they hated playing with them. Elijah feels like that, but with God's teachings instead of toys.
Historical Background
This verse comes from the book of 1 Kings, written during the divided kingdom period, around the 6th century BC. It was intended for the Israelites, reminding them of their covenant with God and the consequences of their actions in a polytheistic cultural context.
Living It Out Today
Consider a scenario where a person is the only one in their workplace standing up against unethical practices, feeling isolated and threatened, yet holding firm to their moral convictions.
