Genesis 31:33
French S21 2007 (Bible Segond 21)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Laban searches for stolen idols in Jacob's, Leah's, and the maidservants' tents but finds nothing. He finally enters Rachel's tent where he doesn't find the idols either.
Explained for Children
Imagine you lost your favorite toy and asked your friends to help look for it. You checked every room, but you couldn't find it until you remembered it was hidden under your sister's bed. Laban is like that, searching everywhere but not finding what he's looking for.
Historical Background
This verse is part of the book of Genesis, traditionally attributed to Moses, written around 1446-1406 BCE. The audience was the Israelites, and the cultural setting was patriarchal, with complex family dynamics and the practice of keeping household idols.
Living It Out Today
Think about a time when you lost something important and searched everywhere but couldn't find it. Like Laban, sometimes we look in all the wrong places and miss the obvious. It’s a reminder to consider all angles and perhaps ask for help.
