Judges 11:2
Arabic KEH Ketab El Hayat (كتاب الحياة)
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us that Jephthah, who was the son of Gilead and a woman from another tribe, was forced to leave his father's home by his half-brothers. They did not want to share their inheritance with him because his mother was not of their tribe.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have half-brothers who don't like your mom because she's from a different place. They tell you that you can't be part of the family business or share the family house, even though you're part of the family. That's what happened to Jephthah, and he had to leave home.
Historical Background
The Book of Judges was written by an unknown author during the time of the Judges, about 1200-1000 B.C. It was written for the Israelites to remind them of their covenant with God and the consequences of their disobedience. In the cultural setting, tribal loyalty was very important, and being the son of a woman from another tribe could lead to exclusion.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this can relate to a scenario where someone is excluded from family activities or inheritance because of their mother's background or status. It highlights the importance of fairness and the dangers of discrimination based on one's origins.
