Romans 6:4
What Does This Mean?
Paul explains in this verse that when we are baptized, it is like being buried with Christ and then raised to new life. This means that after baptism, we should live differently, just as Jesus was resurrected from the dead.
Explained for Children
Imagine planting a seed underground; it looks like it's gone forever. But just like how flowers grow from seeds in the ground, when we are baptized, we bury our old life and start a new one, full of goodness and following God’s way.
Historical Background
The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to Christians in Rome around AD 58. He aimed to explain that baptism represents death to sin and resurrection to new life, encouraging believers to live according to their new identity in Christ.
Living It Out Today
A person who has recently accepted Christianity might find strength in this verse as they navigate the challenges of leaving old habits behind. For example, someone quitting smoking might see each smoke-free day as a step towards living 'in newness of life'.
