وَجَاءَ الشَّعْبُ وَطَلَبُوا مِنْ دَاوُدَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ، وَكَانَ مَا زَالَ نَهَارٌ، فَحَلَفَ دَاوُدُ وَقَالَ: ”لَيْتَ اللهَ يُعَاقِبُنِي أَشَدَّ عِقَابٍ، إِنْ كُنْتُ أَذُوقُ خُبْزًا أَوْ شَيْئًا آخَرَ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ.“
