Judges 7:8
Arabic Bible Life (Targamet El Hayah) (LA)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Gideon sends most of his army home and keeps only 300 soldiers with him. They carry food and trumpets. The rest of the army is sent away, and the enemy, the Midianites, are in the valley below them. This shows Gideon's trust in God's plan despite the odds.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a big group of friends, and you need to clean up a huge mess. But instead of using everyone, you pick only a few friends who are really good at cleaning. You give them some snacks and a whistle, then send the others home. The mess is still big, but you trust that you and your chosen friends can do it with God's help.
Historical Background
The book of Judges was written by various authors but compiled by a later editor, possibly Samuel, around 950 BCE. This passage is set during the time of the Judges in ancient Israel when they were battling the Midianites. The audience was the Israelites, and the cultural setting involved tribal warfare and divine guidance.
Living It Out Today
In a modern scenario, imagine a small team of workers assigned to complete a project that seems too big for them. By trusting in their skills and the support of their manager, they can achieve the impossible, much like Gideon's small group facing the Midianites.
