In Matthew 16:28, Jesus promises that some of the people standing with him will not die until they witness the coming of his kingdom in a powerful way. This verse is about Jesus' promise and his upcoming glory.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing hide-and-seek with your friends. Jesus says that before anyone goes home, someone from this game will see something amazing happen - like seeing a magical kingdom appear! That's what he means when he talks about some of them not dying until they see his kingdom come.
Historical Background
Matthew wrote this Gospel around 80-90 AD for a Jewish-Christian audience. At the time, there was high expectation and anticipation among Jews for the Messiah to bring about God’s kingdom in an immediate and visible way.
Living It Out Today
Consider someone working towards a promotion at their job - they're told that within a year or two, this big change will happen. This verse can encourage people to stay hopeful and patient while waiting for something significant to unfold, just as Jesus' disciples were encouraged by his promise.
