Luke 4:9
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Luke's Gospel, the devil brings Jesus to the top of the temple and challenges him by saying that if he is really God’s Son, he should throw himself down. The devil uses Scripture in a wrong way to tempt Jesus.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing on a very high swing set at school, and someone tells you to jump off because they think it would be cool. That's kind of like what the devil did here; he wanted Jesus to do something dangerous just to prove himself.
Historical Background
This passage was written by Luke, a doctor and early Christian, around 60-85 AD for Gentile Christians to understand who Jesus is. The setting is Jerusalem, where the temple stands as the center of Jewish worship.
Living It Out Today
In today’s world, this verse can remind us that we often face temptations that seem harmless but could lead us astray. It's important to critically evaluate our decisions and not give in just because someone else pressures us or suggests it looks impressive.
