Luke 14:11
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
This verse from Luke tells us that if we think too highly of ourselves, God will humble us. Conversely, if we are humble and modest, God will lift us up. This is a teaching from Jesus.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing hide-and-seek with your friends. If you think you're the best hider in the world, everyone might find you easily! But if you say 'I can try to be better,' others may not notice you as much. It's like that with God too.
Historical Background
This verse was written by Luke, a historian and physician, around 60-80 AD for Greek-speaking Gentile Christians. The cultural setting includes the Jewish expectation of honor and status in society.
Living It Out Today
Imagine you're at work where everyone is competing to be the best. Instead of boasting about your achievements, being humble can earn you respect from others and opportunities to grow further.
