وَلَمّا نَظَرَ رِجالُ عايَ إلَى الوَراءِ، رَأَوْا الدُّخانَ يَصْعَدُ مِنَ المَدِينَةِ نَحْوَ السَّماءِ. وَلَمْ يكُنْ لَهُمْ مَهْرَبٌ فِي أيِّ اتِّجاهٍ، لِأنَّ الشَّعبَ الَّذِي كانَ يَتَظاهَرُ بِالهَرَبِ نَحوَ البَرِّيَّةِ، دارَ إلَى الخَلْفِ ضِدَّ مُطارِديهِ.
