Jeremiah 35:18
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
Jeremiah tells the Rechabites that because they obeyed their ancestor Jonadab's rules and followed them faithfully, God is pleased with them. Jeremiah speaks for God, praising their obedience and faithfulness.
Explained for Children
Imagine if your dad asked you to keep your room clean, and you did it every single day without fail. That's what the Rechabites did with the rules their great-great-grandpa Jonadab gave them. God was really happy about it!
Historical Background
Jeremiah wrote this during the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem around 588 BCE. The Rechabites were a nomadic tribe who had strict rules to preserve their way of life. Jeremiah uses them as an example of obedience to contrast with the disobedience of the people of Judah.
Living It Out Today
Think about a time when you had to follow strict rules, like being on a sports team. Just like the Rechabites, if you stick to those rules, you'll earn respect and possibly rewards. This verse reminds us of the value of following through with our commitments.
