Genesis 27:23
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
In Genesis 27:23, Isaac blesses Jacob because he can't tell that it's not his hairy brother Esau. Isaac is deceived by Jacob's disguise, which includes using goat skins to mimic Esau's hairy hands.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing a game of dress-up with your brother. Your brother is known for having really fuzzy socks. You put on a fuzzy hat and pretend to be him. Your mom, who can't see well, feels your fuzzy hat and thinks it's your brother's fuzzy socks. She gives you a special prize meant for your brother!
Historical Background
This verse is from the book of Genesis, written by Moses around 1440-1400 BC. The audience was the Israelites, and the cultural setting was the early nomadic and patriarchal period. This story highlights the importance of honesty and the consequences of deceit.
Living It Out Today
Consider a scenario where someone is trying to trick their boss to get a promotion. Instead of working hard and being honest, they pretend to have the same skills as a colleague. Eventually, the deception is discovered, and the consequences can be severe, much like what happened to Jacob.
