Exodus 33:16
Arabic Bible ERV 2009
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Moses is asking God how the Israelites will know that they have found favor in God's sight. Moses suggests that God's presence with them is the clear sign of God's grace and that this will set them apart from other peoples.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing with your friends and you want to know if your mom really likes you. You might think, 'If mom comes to watch me play, then I know she really likes me.' Moses is saying something similar but for the whole Israelite group, asking God to show how much God likes them by being there with them.
Historical Background
Exodus was written by Moses around 1446-1406 BC. This particular verse comes at a time when the Israelites are traveling through the wilderness after being freed from slavery in Egypt. Moses is speaking directly to God, asking for assurance of God's favor and presence.
Living It Out Today
Imagine a team trying to win a big competition. The team members might wonder if the coach truly believes in them. If the coach spends extra time with the team, it shows the coach's confidence and support. Similarly, God’s presence with His people assures them of God’s favor and separates them from others.
