Explained for Children
Imagine you have a best friend, and your mean older brother wants to take your friend away. You'd want to protect your friend, right? That's what Jonathan did for David. He told David to hide so he wouldn't get in trouble.
Historical Background
This verse comes from the book of 1 Samuel, written by Samuel, Nathan, and Gad. It was written around 931-722 B.C. and is part of the Old Testament. The story is set in ancient Israel, where Saul is the king and David is a young man who will eventually become king.
Living It Out Today
In today's world, think of a scenario where a friend is in trouble and another friend steps in to protect them. This could be a friend being bullied and another friend telling them to hide and asking for help from a teacher or parent.
