What Does This Mean?
Haggai asks the priests if touching something that has been made unclean by a dead body makes it stay unclean. The priests confirm that yes, it will remain unclean. This verse highlights how uncleanness is passed on through contact.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a toy that gets dirty when it touches mud. If someone else picks up that toy after it touched the mud, their hands would also get dirty. Haggai was asking if something similar happens with things in the temple when they touch something unclean.
Historical Background
Haggai wrote this during the rebuilding of the Second Temple around 520 BC. The Jews had returned from exile and were trying to restore their religious practices. This dialogue takes place as part of discussions about purity laws.
