Hosea 10:8
What Does This Mean?
This verse says that the places where Israel worshipped idols will be destroyed, and thorns and thistles will grow there instead. People will wish to hide from God's judgment. Hosea is telling this to warn about the consequences of sinning against God.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a special treehouse where you play, but one day it gets knocked down because you were naughty. You feel so bad that you want to hide under your bed or in a closet. That's how Israel felt when they worshipped idols and had to face the consequences.
Historical Background
The prophet Hosea wrote this around 750-725 BC, during a time of religious decline in Israel. The people were worshipping false gods at high places called Aven, which angered God.
Living It Out Today
Today, if we choose to follow the wrong path or idols (like money, fame), it can lead to destruction and regret. We might wish for something to hide us from our mistakes like those in Hosea's time wished for mountains to cover them.
