فَأرْسَلَ المَلِكُ رَسُولًا إلَى ألِيشَعَ. وَكَانَ ألِيشَعُ جَالِسًا فِي بَيْتِهِ وَالشُّيُوخُ جَالِسينَ مَعَهُ. وَقَبْلَ وُصُولِ الرَّسُولِ، قَالَ ألِيشَعُ لِلشُّيُوخِ: «لَقَدْ أرْسَلَ ابْنُ القَاتِلِ رِجَالًا لِيَقْطَعُوا رَأسِي. فَعِنْدَمَا يَصِلُ الرَّسُولُ، أغلِقُوا البَابَ وَلَا تَسْمَحُوا لَهُ بِالدُّخُولِ. إنِّي أسْمَعُ صَوْتَ قَدَمَيِّ سَيِّدِهِ وَرَاءَهُ.»
